The Danish Parliament (Folketinget) has decided to pay out an extraordinary National Award of DKK 10,000 on the occasion of the 75th anniversary after 29th August 1943.
The extraordinary National Award is disbursed to those who have been recognised, as per 1st August 2018, under the Danish Act on Compensation for Victims of the Occupation Period. This means that the National Award is granted to members of the Danish Resistance, Allied sailors and concentration camp prisoners etc., and to their widows/widowers.
The background for the extraordinary National Award is that the official Denmark wishes to send a special thanks to those who, during the German Occupation, made an extra effort for our country.
The National Award is granted because 75 years ago, the Danish Government terminated their cooperation with the German occupying power and resigned.
Subsequently a night curfew was introduced, together with special courts and capital punishment for sabotage and resistance work. It is also an important date in the history of the military and the navy as this was the date when the German occupying power attacked and took over the Danish military and navy.
The National Award is disbursed by Udbetaling Danmark and Arbejdsmarkedets Erhvervssikring (Labour Market Insurance). Please feel free to contact Arbejdsmarkedets Erhvervssikring for any questions about this.
